If you don't like what is on TV you can change the channel. There are several news channels and the C-SPAN channels that you can watch Congress in session, or committee meeting, or when they have specified times when congressmen can speak on some specific issue that they are concerned about. Do not let television control your attitudes, use the television to find out information you need to know about so you can make intelligent decisions.
TV is a method of communication, a tool of communication if you would prefer that terminology. How the tool of TV is used makes all the difference.
Here is an example of how our democracy can be improved with TV.
1. Candidates pay a lot of money for television ads (and radio ads). These expenses should not have to be charged. Free speech should really be free, especially if you are running for office, so that you can explain your ideas and respond to the arguments and opinions of your opponent(s).
The free ads for all candidates, to advocate their policies and respond to opponents, should be made a condition (requirement) of getting and keeping a television or radio license when they are reissued, at which time public (you) comment on whether they deserve to have it renewed with any complaints or suggestions you might have....
