Being the First President of a New Government of a New Nation, Washington is realy hard to judge good, bad, great.

He had to help make this new country work for the first time and he did what he could. He did not realy want to be President but since the people chose him, he would not let them down. That is why he only stayed 2 terms. He only lived 3 more years on his farm where he wanted to be before he died.

Washington was the commander of the only US military force and he could have appointed himself King of America after the revolutionary war. It was expected that he would.

But he turned the troops back over to the Continental Congress. He chose not to be king. That makes him great.

He is responsible for a free and democratic America.

Imagine if the same situation had been given to Bush.

We would have been crushed by the british if it wasn't for Washington, and would not be a country. He is still the greatest president, even greater than Reagan, Bush, and Nixon.
