is there a 'common denominator' that could bring all the worlds leaders together in an effort to make peace a reality? if so, what would it be?

Well, war has always existed, it's a mean for states to expand their area of influence and to assume their security. However, I do not understand why it is still a common occurrence. Plenty of international mechanisms have been implemented to regulate relations between states which could resolve conflicts before they are carried on physically. The bad faith some states constantly demonstrate put a strain on these organization (i.e. UN did not support the war in Irak but the US still carried on)

But the problem lies deeper, it's intolerance that is at the root of most wars. States today do not carry wars for expansion (most of the time) but rather to impose their view on others that do not have the same lifestyle.

Part of the solution would be to allow every states to sit on the UN council whether it is considered democratic or not. It would also be necessary to allow all ethnicity to use their native languages and practice their culture as long as it does not infringe others liberties. Some regions of the world are not suited to become democracies, at least not yet, and it is something that westerners have to accept. Maybe the common denominator should be that everyone should accept that the Western ways are not the absolute best and we should stop to impose them on unwilling populations.

You would be asking everyone to trust each other, put there weapons away, and enjoy what we have. There are crazy people out there who are selfish and will take for themselves. When you get a group of these wackos together, then they get really crazy(ie. take over the world). These people would see peaceful nations as a weakness and try to topple (even their own) government.

So, if you want a peaceful solution, try this: don't make money an issue for economy, let people live where they want to live and in any country with no exception, ensure that we have one leader in every country just to say we have one. Have one language, maybe two to keep things interesting and share everything with everybody.

Get rid of all the crazy people. Then everyone might be happy...or not..but I tried.

No. Mankind is too divisive to make this possible. We are a species who values our individual freedoms (even those who deny them to others believe they have a right to their own) and those freedoms so vary from race to race, nation to nation, faith to faith, that we will not have world peace so long as we follow our hearts and not our heads.

The common deonminator that could bring about peace would be full frontal lobotomies for all mankind.

Yes. I think we are halfway there. Look at what happened in WWII and what we learned through the Vietnam experience. With all the uproar over Iraq, we will in no way ever lose as many people there as we lost in Vietnam. Yes, there will always be some radical terrorist somewhere trying to flex his muscles, but I think the technology of weaponry really has served to make us "think twice" before we launch relative to having itchy trigger fingers 50, 100 or 200 years ago.

No. World peace is impossible.
