Question:
Is UK really that thick?

Okay, I am a proud American. I have served in Iraq. When I went to the United Kingdom for a vacation with my girlfriend, I have never had a worst/best time. A lot of the teenagers there are so immature and basically blamed me for America's government and how I am a bloodthirsty pirate?? LOL. The older generation around my age wasn't much better. I couldn't go into a bar with out some scrawny smart *** remark like go eat a hamburger? This was right next door to a burger restaurant! The people like 30 and up were some of the most hospital people I have ever met though, and I email some of them to this day. I even managed to have my first barfight. I wore a tshirt with an American flag. Go figure.
Every video on youtube I have looked up is a competition mostly trash talking America and Americans alike. It appears to only come from the UK side though. I am not just saying that either to defend America.
Every stereotype they claimed is like the exact opposite of my girlfriend and I, yet complete strangers accused me of things I have never done or even heard of just because I greeted them with an American accent. Other than that London was really cool and I saw a lot of great things. It truly was memorable. But my question is, is the UK really full of immature assholes? Another thing. Why do people in the UK think they are so sophisticated and better than everyone else?

Sry for the wall of text!!! :)

I would say you were just unlucky to meet some loud mouthed louts who have no idea what they are talking about can only guess but may of been the area you were in rest assured the greater majority of british people have a great respect for the Americans the same goes for the videos on youtube the people who do this sort of thing have never been to america or if they have have only ever been to Florida and think they have seen all of America just ignore them they do not represent the true British person who most of have great respect for Americans

I personally quite like Americans. I work with a bunch of them on a dive vessel out in China. Very nice guys. I think you fellas get alot of bad press for the way people think you are. I have to admit that when I first met the guys out here they did seem a little arrogant but soon got on well with them. I suppose the sence of humor has its differences from america and the UK and could cause a few problems.

In america you have your red neck trailor trash ... in the UK we have a similar thing... Chavs... thats probably who you have been running into in your bar fight.

I too have served in Iraq twice and have to say have had no problems with the US Army and pretty much found the guys I've met an ok bunch. Sometimes a little gulable but hey !

so all in all the US isnt bad maybe a little power hungry but how can I say that being British we owned over half the world at one point !! Just remember you wouldnt have a USA if it wasnt for the english !

Next time you come to the UK do your homework on decent cities !

I think your a troll. I very doubt teenagers ran up to you to declare their dislike for Americans. I have seen many Americans in my life & have never witnessed one get harassed by teens. The only scenario this would occur in is if the American is walking around in a stars & stripes suit singing the American national anthem & using the Union Flag as shoes.

But I'll answer your question anyway. 90% of Americans would have me believe Brits have bad teeth, bad food & suffer from a lot of rain, oh & they'd of heard of the Queen of England. This isn't just American teens, this is your average American. Not to mention ill-educated comments such as "we saved your *** in WW2".

If Britons did behave like this towards you (which I doubt) then I'm sorry. But Americans are certainly no better behaved towards foreigners than they apparent Brits you met.

Well, they shouldn't have picked on you simply for being from the US. Having said that, if you walked around in a t-shirt with the US flag on it and proudly told people you were in Iraq then you should expect some sort of reaction.

The vast majority of people in the UK are against the invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only are we angry with our politicians for dragging us into a US war but we're also angry with GWB and his cronies for starting it.

We were lied to and so were you. Over 1million people have now died in both those countries simply for oil and hegemony in South Asia and the Middle East. They were defending their countries against invasion.

I don't know what your attitude was but I suspect you perceived as being arrogant and ignorant of world affairs. That is the accusation that pretty much every country in the world aims at the US but it seems that some over there never listen.

I know many US citizens who are embarrassed by their country's foreign policy and have progressive ideas about how the US should behave in the world but we in the UK, and everywhere else are bombarded by a very negative image coming out of the US. You are perceived as an imperialist, sabre rattling, war loving nation.

That's probably why your reception here was quite frosty!

No more so than the US. There are however, more people in the UK as a percentage that have passports and been to other parts of the world than there are in the US.

I wouldn`t take too much notice of the post from wolfie, he always spouts off as speaking for the majority of Britons, which he dose not.

Yawn........another pathetic uneccessary rant from an unwanted American visitor.......did you ever stop to think that most of the were jus taking the p**s?? The fact that you served in Iraq wouldn't impress anyone either, as it was down to your wooden-top- war-monger President at the time that there was a war there anyway.

Can I suggest to sit down, take a good long look at yourself, and consider coming back when you've grown up a little??

So your experience was mixed eh? I think you would have had exactly the same reception in any European country. Perhaps you might have stayed out of the bars.

No the UK is not any more full of assholes than USA. UK is still losing soldiers in these wars which are perceived as USA's problem.

Sorry but "blood-thirsty pirate" did make me laugh!

Generally us Brits like a bit of friendly banter with the Americans, but I'm sorry if it went too far.

The real question is...Did you win the bar fight?

i think the problem comes from a lot of americans being arrogant, ignorant a damned superior to every one else,im not saying you are or are not,but that is how a lot of your fellow country people are and how they come across,of course the other part of the problem is that you went to england that is full of people that are arrogant, ignorant and damned superior to every one else, try scotland next time, and there is one other thing,a lot of your people refer to the uk as england and that does piss a lot of others off (the scots, welsh and irish),well done for doing your bit in iraq

The limeys are limeys, just like the French they still got an emperor complex left over from the 19th century.

The reality isn't flattering for anybody : the US and Britain are part of the axis of global Zionism. Both are deluded that they control themselves but in truth they are the Rothschilds' b***hes.

Both 9/11 and 7/7 in London were false flag operations carried out by the Mossad with the complicity of Zionist owned intelligence services. The Madrid bombings too show that the EU is they are another Zionist B***h.

The only reason for the War on terror is bring about the Zionist plan of One World Government, in an enlarged Israel.

Sorry, but there's no way you would have got a reaction like that in this country unless you're a complete prick. It simply doesn't happen. I should have a look in the mirror.
