Question:
Are you going to fill out the 2010 Census form?
2009-12-25 15:28:58 UTC
Personally I am going to throw it in the trash. And tell the census worker to get lost and warn my neighbors to keep their mouth shut if a census worker comes to their door asking questions about me. What are you going to do?

I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home. We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.

On its very face, this is also a flagrant violation of the 5th amendment. Any census form that goes beyond asking how many people live in the residence is a violation of the 5th amendment, and court cases have established this, yet the census becomes more and more invasive each time.

Americans are being forced to answer intrusive questions about their private lives under threat of home visits and fines by the government in the guise of The American Community Survey.

The survey, which is sent to 3 million random homes each year, is in addition to the census but demands far more invasive information from citizens, such as how many times they have been married, if they have a toilet that flushes, and how much is left outstanding on their mortgage.

This invasive information being demanded by the government in the form of the survey arrive on the back of similar concerns about the 2010 census itself, particularly how census workers are using GPS to electronically tag every home in America.

In February, the Obama administration moved control of the census out of the Department of Commerce and into the White House, a tactic slammed as a trick by Democrats to keep their majorities in Congress. o_O

The Constitution requires a counting. You need to answer the Constitutional questions like how many and probably age because it has to do with voting. The rest is none of their business as far as I am concerned. I would like to see what happens when the Census computers try to digest that 87% of households have 500 chickens in the basement. I hope Americans have sufficient imagination to play.

i thought it was 2011 when the next census is due

why not fill it in how can planners plan for the future if they don't know who is living in a area

the information on the census by act of Parliament can not be used against you, so if your claiming benefits for living on your own but in-fact you have 3 lodgers and great uncle bill living with you the census people can not by law inform on you.

plus the information gathered from any census can not be made public until 100 years has passed

so what harm can it do

and to not fill it in is against the law

I do genealogy (searching for ancestors) and the census records are a big help to me. I plan on answering the census questionnaire. The last census to be released to the public was the 1930 census. The 1940 will be release in 2010.

Complying with the census is the law of the land. This is one of the FEW THINGS that a citizen or resident is REQUIRED to do by the CONSTITUTION of the United States. It is simple enough and will in no way hurt you or your family.

Civil disobedience, in some situations, can be justified. I won't argue that. But resistance to the census is just pointless nonsense.

If you fail to respond to the census questionnaire when you receive it in the mail, you will be giving up one of your basic American civil rights. You probably don't care that you were born with the right to vote to choose the people who exercise so much control over your life. Your petty act alone will not cause districts to become misaligned; however, you do lose your right to be taken seriously when you complain about things being the way they are especially if you believe you are being unfairly taken for granted.

I've never met a door to door census taker. What does one look like? I might go out of my way to be counted twice to make up for your lack of civic pride.

This census may be the law of the land but if it is unfair or sinister I would just ignore it, the people who make the laws and force us to obey them are themselves a little above being criminals themselves, or are criminals and they have not the interest of the USA at heart, some of them should be tried for treason. There are a lot of questions I would like to put on a form and ask them to answer, but they would wiggle and slid their way out of answering correctly

All you have told us is that you plan to behave in a disorderly way. But you have not given any reason for it.

There's no logic (reasoning) in your position.

It is a pure desire to be disorderly.

OK, so, let's see there are 6 billion people in the world. About 1 Billion of them have a pure, unreasoning desire to be disorderly.

What makes you different from them?

I know it's hard to come up with reasons for your conduct, so I will help you. I will suggest some possible reasons for your conduct. Perhaps you could just point and grunt at whichever one of these appeals to you.

1) You are afraid that minority groups are getting unfair advantages for themselves by using census data.

2) You think that the liberal Congress plans to use the census to create better districts for liberals in the future.

3) You are a mixed ethnic person, and you don't like having to describe your ethnic identity.

4) You disapprove of hyphenated Americans and think it's nobody's business what anybody is.

5) Your are hiding people in your house who are not supposed to be in USA, so you want to avoid incriminating yourself and them.

6) You are an anarchist, and want to see general chaos, and filling out the census form is contrary to your "principles", such as they are.

Don't feel you have to pick one of these. I want your sincere, honest, real reason, not words that I or anyone else have put in your mouth.

But your post is absurd on its face. It's like telling us that you plan to run red lights, and ignore stop signs, but not telling us why. Without reasoning, disorderly conduct is simply mental illness. There has to be a reason for your action, or it's nonsense. You can see that, right?

I agree with "Don't Tell Me What to Think" -- you only have to fill out the parts of the form that are legally required by the U.S. Constitution. You don't have to tell them if you have a toilet, or how much is left to pay on your mortgage. But that's a lot different from throwing the form in the trash.

ADDENDUM:

This guy won't fill out the Constitutionally mandated parts of the census form, and won't wear his seat belt. He does not like to be told what to do. So, why is he qualified to live in a constitutional democratic republic? Why is he qualified to get health insurance or auto insurance? Isn't a certain amount of compliance the price we pay for living in a civilized community? You want a place where nobody likes rules and everybody is a rebel, try Somalia -- every man his own pirate. I'm surprized that my suggestion that this person be a bit more orderly is getting thumbs down. Are we becoming helter-skelter berserker nation, is that it? Are the punks taking over? Or maybe folks just don't like my condescension and mocking tone, is that it? You can be frank with me, I can take it.

You sound so unhappy, why don't you find a nice country in which you are anxious to participate in the civic activities.America is a wonderful country because it is a land of laws to protect its citizens. We have the law on our side here in America. The laws of the Land protect and serve us. The laws of the land give us our freedom.

Why not fill it out. If it were a survey by a large corp who sole purpose was marketing I would defintly throw it out. But the cenus form is what is used to tell differant govt agencys if they need more or less services in an area

So personaly I am going to fill mine out. There is very little an average person can do in infulance what the govt does and this is one of them

I'm with don't tell me what to think. The government has no business in knowing any of our private information.

I will not be answering any questions but the one dealing with the number of people living at my address. Any of the rest of them are none of the goverment's business.
