Do we get the Government we deserve?

It an old saying that people get the government they deserve. Given voter apathy, pork barrel projects and the proliferation of lobbyists, have we ended up with the government of our own creation?

I say yes! People have seen those who profit through their greed and corruption continue unchecked, and we have reached a point where it seems everyone wants a piece of the corruption pie. Whether through excess litigation or the threat of some -ism or other, most people seem to be looking for the fast cash payoff that'll put them on Easy Street. (which says a lot about what we value)
It is this very self-serving attitude which has led to the death of civility in this country and the end of any real, widespread neighborhood or community values.

It's sad but true. I thought this question was going to be a "are we getting what we pay for" question, but no, this one is different that the usual griping. Kudos.

No, we do not deserve a Supreme Court like the one we have, which we voters do not vote for and which has decided that they won't even allow our votes to be counted.



Did you say something about voter apathy? After a Court ruling like Bush v. Gore, why on EARTH would any voter become apathetic?

Most assuredly. Not bothering to vote or voting without being informed. The worse offenders are those that vote party line no matter who the candidate is. That is the only explanation, when a newly elected candidate is unqualified.

no, because they are making people pay for other people who are on welfare which most of the time dont work so thats dumb and we have to pay for them until they start working which is hardly ever and they dont say anything so were stuck in that position for a long time!

Getting the government we deserve is the best we can hope for---we could do a lot worse!!!!
