Why is Obama doing this?

The National Day of Prayer was established by Congress in 1952. This is the government endorses prayer; a religious act. That is unconstitutional. Period. A Wisconsin judge ruled this a unconstitutional; it violated the First Amendment. The Obama administration is going to appeal the ruling.

WTF?! Obama said this was a secular nation and that we were not a Christian nation. Why would he appeal a ruling that is in favor of his idea? Wtf is going on?!

As you note, Congress passed the law establishing a national day of prayer. It is the duty of the administration to defend the laws of the land in the courts.

Just on the basis of keep religion out of state I say Obama should not get involved. In this country we are free to worship as we believe..no one religion or belief is better than the other. As a devout Catholic I have my beliefs, but I don't want my government involved in my religion. Nor do I want to see morality confused with religious beliefs. Keep religion and state separate.

Anyone can pray anytime they want. There is simply no reason to have a National Day of Prayer.

the us was founded by men and women that believed in religious freedom. freedom from oppression that was imposed on the manner you worshiped. this freedom includes the freedom to express your religion. if you do not want to celebrate with prayer you are welcome to your choice. but there can be no law against it. we are a religious nation, comprised of many forms of worship. prayer can be just meditation. you are trying to force your belief on others this is oppression of religion,
